On 3rd July 2026, the Managing Director of Stockpoint Kenya Limited attended the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Launch and Practitioner Certification Workshop held at Rift Valley Institute of Business Studies. The event marked a significant milestone in advancing the implementation of the Recognition of Prior Learning framework in Kenya by promoting skills recognition and certification for competencies acquired through informal and non-formal learning.
Event - Formalizing the Informal Economy
The workshop culminated in the awarding of Level II RPL Practitioner Certificates to 25 candidates by the Delivery Unit under the State Department for TVET, Ministry of Education. The certification recognized the successful completion of professional training that equips practitioners with the knowledge and skills required to facilitate, assess, and support the implementation of the RPL process across various sectors.
The launch was graced by the Chief Principal of Kabete National Polytechnic, who served as the Chief Guest. The event was hosted by the Principal of Rift Valley Institute of Business Studies and presided over by the Director of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). Their participation reaffirmed the government's commitment to strengthening skills recognition systems, enhancing workforce competitiveness, and expanding access to nationally recognized qualifications.
The workshop brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including representatives from Kasarani Technical and Vocational College, industry experts, and members of the Jua Kali sector representing various trades such as fashion and design, cosmetology, automotive mechanics, plumbing, masonry, and other skilled occupations. The forum provided an opportunity for participants to share experiences, discuss the implementation of RPL, and explore collaborative strategies for increasing access to certification for skilled workers.
Discussions emphasized the critical role of Recognition of Prior Learning in promoting lifelong learning, improving employability, supporting career progression, and recognizing the competencies of individuals who have acquired skills through workplace experience and informal training. Participants also explored the importance of collaboration between training institutions, industry, and government in expanding the reach and impact of the RPL programme across the country.
